The Insistent Moth

Image: from http://unfoldingpaper.wordpress.com

Why do you insist

on the long beaten path

of suffering, and

sacrificing your glory-winged being

to the light?

You are of no service

crumpled under a lamp shade

or singed at candle toe.

Do you not know that

there is a lucid holiness

to be had in

the dark abyss?

Reject not the black heavens.

You have caterpillared

and cocooned.

Though death to form

may seem like a way of life,

This time the stars are

counciling you

to Live.

Oh my love,

what would it take

to extend your heart

and flutter your soul

while in the cup of

my gentle hands?

Out the door.

I have faith ~

When no longer an addict

of self-flagellation,

The Light that craves You

will enlighten within.

Longing

Photo: (c) Jamie K. Reaser

A poem/prayer offered up to my many Sisters
who have long been dancing with Longing

I have been waiting for you so long
that I have taken Longing as my mate,
consecrated in holy union
by the new moon and a great-horned owl
who received Her light upon white oak limb.

Dare you come to me in the flesh,
pray you know courting
as the bee knows courting,
buzzing sweetness to His floral love
for the consensual spill
of gold-dust pollen.

Pray you have walked with naked feet
so long upon this Earth
that you know how to caress the Feminine
in all her aspects and seasons.

Pray that you long to be received
with a hunger so profound,
and to this day insatiable,
that you know that your only
hope of soulful salvation is
bodily surrender to that which
will devour you.

I pray,
that in the moment of your arrival,
I know you as the
stranger who has long been
my familiar,

the scent after storm,
the voice on the breeze,
the face in the cloud at sunset.

I pray that I know myself
well enough
to stand
and stay
and acquiesce my fears
to a daring do heart.

Longing has been my ritual.

May loving bequest us,
each to the other,
and us in service of the world,
in the language of ceremony.

The Cloak of Invisibility

Image: origin unknown

Once upon a time,

while the adult wars raged,

a little boy

found within himself

a cloak of invisibility.

What a discovery!

“To be invisible is to be safe.”

Decades have passed.

Those particular adult wars have stopped.

But the little boy within the man

still wears the cloak.

He’s not yet ready to surrender.

Someone else might wage a war.

Really, they might.

It happens.

**

The Holy Mother grieves,

feeling the absence of her Son,

the Man.

She’s never before cradled a being

so beautiful in his particular way,

And she knows for what he was

conceived ~

He’s to be a great unveiler…

Gifted in the way the wolf is gifted

at unveiling the moon.

Rain falls as tears take the Great Leap from her chin.

Will he show HimSelf?

She prays.

**

I know that cloak.

How you spin sunwise when you

put it on.

How you peek and duck

and peek and duck

at its frayed edges

like a hungry salamander who can’t decide

whether or not it is safe to come out

from under a rock…

But who feels such a strong need

to emerge.

I know you have that hunger!

Oh my friend, I have not lost

sight of you.

When the doubts and fears arise,

Take my hand

and look into my eyes –

See yourSelf the way

I See you.

See you.

You can do this.

You can conceive yourSelf

as who you were born to be.

Only in this, dear Man,

will you unveil

your own true Peace.

Co-dependency

Photo: Jamie K. Reaser

If only the thunder

kept to its promise,

we’d have rain.

Sometimes even the sky

knows longing –

Feels an inability to meet

and be met at the humid

interface of Earth and Cosmos.

The old dogwood tree

hasn’t known the elements

to be so spare in their

courting,

and its leaves droop,

as if sorrowed.

There went a dragonfly

who cannot find

a pond.

The hummingbird races

against time as the

pink phlox

desiccate.

Whoever classified

co-dependency as a

pathology,

Was never in love

with Life.

The Cattail

Photo: (c) Jamie K. Reaser

“I thought that I had told you
about joy,” said the cattail…

Toes wiggling in the soft
marsh muck,

Practiced hips swaying
in the breeze,

Undressing silky seed tufts
with a pleasurable sigh
and impish grin.

“Were you not listening?”

Wild Honey

Photo: (c) Jamie K. Reaser, raw honey

True Masters will fall to their knees
in fits of reverent weeping
to discover a hive
of wild honey.

How such a tiny insect can fill
a deeply wounded heart
with a golden viscous syrup
so sweet
so nourishing
so Divine...

Reach inside.

This must be the meaning
of Life.
